Determination of Zinc ion concentration in chahnimeh water of Sistan region using carbon paste electrode modified with humic acid

Based on various reports has done until now humic acid which is a cation exchanger and a chelator metal ion, can be used as a modifier of carbon paste electrode. In this work a new carbon paste electrode built by humic acid and utilized for determination of zinc ion in chahnimeh water of Sistan. The percent of modifier in carbon paste was changed in three values (3%, 5% and 6%) the increase in modifier was led to increase in the peaks’ height and potential of peak was shifted towards more negative protentional. Analytical parameters such as buffer solution pH, scan rate, effect composition of modified electrode with different contents of CPE imposed Potential and preconcentration time were optimized. Differential pulse voltammogram (0.1 M Kcl supporting electrolyte) on the potential range of –0.5p to 0.2 Volts and scan rate 10 mV/sec was recorded. In the optimum pH= 3.75 (acetic buffer), the catalytic reduction peak currents were linearly dependent on the zinc ion concentration. By using differential pulse technique, linear calibration curve in optimal condition (pH =3.75) and a scan rate of 10 mv s-1 was obtained in the ranges of 10×10-6–2×10-6 M (D.L = 4.4 × 10-7 M, R=0.994). The concentration of Zinc ion in water 98.7 ppb was measured. Finally, the electrode was used for determination of zinc ion in real samples.
