چکیده مقاله:
Due to progressive increase in the global population coupled with efforts to limit climate change and finding ways to generate sustainable energy, alternative renewable energy research has intensified in several areas, especially in the biomass, solar, and wind energy categories. Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) as a subset of bio-electrochemical systems (BESs) use electroactive microorganisms as biocatalyst in an anaerobic anode compartment to transfer electrons from the oxidation of organic carbon to a solid electrode for production of bioelectricity. The advantages of MFCs include ambient temperature, pressure, and neutral pH requirements and the unlimited range of sources of biodegradable organic carbon. The most essential components of an MFC device are the electrodes, electroactive microorganism, and carbon source. Carbon sources can affect the performance and power density of the MFC by effect of the overall bacterial community in the anode biofilm. The cost effective manner of achieving to these substrates is use of sewage sludge, biomass and food waste that makes possible power supply from cheap raw materials, low energy consumption in substrate transport, steady current output.
